Our Programs
What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Overview:
Our programs consist of several courses to teach kids how to code in a fun and interactive way. We have classes in python in which we teach kids how to draw using code, make interactive programs, and create their own games. In addition to teaching python, one of the most popular programming languages, we also bring in different kinds of technology to play around with. For example, we have classes in which we teach kids how to build awesome projects like programming lights to change colors and patterns, and building robots using RaspberryPis. We also bring in speakers from the tech industry to talk about what they do and share their experience in the tech industry. Our hope is that by doing so we will give kids both the skills of programming and the opportunity to see what working in the tech industry looks like, which are essential to future academic and personal development.
Our STEM program:
At Get In The Game, we strive to educate kids through our STEM education program. In our program, we incorporate different aspects of STEM by teaching about computer science, engineering, and having different speakers from Silicon Valley in the STEM field come and talk about their journey of how they landed a job in STEM. By doing so, we hope that we will be able to give underprivileged kids both the skills of programming and the opportunity to see what working in the tech industry looks like, both highly valuable skills that will become essential in the future.
Everyone Counts:
At Get In The Game we feel that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to learn. Our Every One Counts policy helps to implement this goal. In an effort to help educate all kids, we teach a variety of programs that range in difficulty. This allows for students with different experiences to participate in our programs regardless of their previous knowledge. Also by doing so, we allow for students who are new to computer science to take a beginner course and learn the basics of programming. For those who already have knowledge in computer science, our approach also allows them to remain challenged by taking a more advanced course.
